Create and Edit Groupings
The grouping of assets is central to the asset tree and the main area where assets are displayed. The asset fields - and their sort order - configured on a group are directly reflected in both. In the dialog, you can create new groups, edit existing ones, and remove groups you do not need anymore.
For the display in the asset tree as well as in the main area it has to be considered that sub-assets are only displayed if they fit into the same grouping. Otherwise, the sub-asset will be displayed as a separate asset below its matching grouping node. Sub-sub assets that in turn fit into the grouping of the parent asset are displayed as a direct sub-asset.
Example: The following example hierarchy: Computer 1
(Vendor A) with Monitor 2
(Vendor B) as sub-asset. Below that, Charge cable 3
(Vendor A) as a sub-sub asset. The asset tree, grouped by vendor, now shows: Group Type Vendor A as the main node, with Computer 1
as the node below it. Charge cable 3
is attached to Computer 1
as a sub-asset. Furthermore, there is a group node Vendor B as another main node, under which Monitor 2
can be found.
In the editing dialog of a group, you can add multiple asset fields to the group. These asset fields will be used for the display levels in the asset tree and main view of the Inventory application. When adding additional fields, you will notice that they get indented - to indicate their dependencies to one another.
In the essence, you can add as many fields, as you like. At a certain point, the indention will not go any deeper to save space in the dialog.
You can modify the order of groups using the arrow buttons on each line. Single entries can be removed using the trash can.
Note: Groups are defined by users with the permission to edit assets. All users have the same views available. There is no localization of group names.
Note: Removing all groups resets the list to the groups available by default.
