MS SQL Server >= 2008

Type

MS SQL Server

Server name

Host name or IP address where MS SQL Server is running.

Port or instance name

The static default port for MS SQL Server is 1433. If you have installed MS SQL Server 2014 R2 Express from the i-net HelpDesk download package, then the setup creates the named SQL instance "HelpDesk". In order for the i-net HelpDesk server to connect to the SQL instance, the SQL Server Browser must be started. If in doubt, check the setting in Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > SQL Server Browser. In the services dialog you can also find the instance name for the service "SQL Server" in the parenthesis behind it. Instance names are case-insensitive.

Database

The name of the database. If the database was created by the i-net HelpDesk setup, then the default name is InetHelpDesk.

User name

If MS SQL server authentication is possible, then specify here a valid SQL account (e.g. "sa") with read and write permissions to the HelpDesk database.

Important: Only "Windows authentication" is also possible as security mode. For this, the "Username" and "Password" fields must remain empty. The HelpDesk server connects to the SQL server with the Windows account of the logged-in user. If the i net HelpDesk server and the database server are two different systems, then you must run the "i net HelpDesk" service with a Windows account that also has access to the SQL server. The "Local System" default is only possible if i-net HelpDesk Server and Database Server are installed on the same system.

Password

The password for this user name. If MS SQL Server 2014 R2 Express from the download package for i-net HelpDesk has been installed, then:

  • an SQL HelpDesk instance with SQL Server and Windows authentication mode,
  • the database InetHelpDesk,
  • the database account sa with the password set during the setup process.
