Continuous Chart Properties

Continuous chart types have in common that the groups are positioned on the continuous axis according to their value, not simply one after another as with discrete chart types. Among other things, this means there may be gaps if there is no data in a certain group - empty groups are not skipped but displayed as gaps.

Continuous Bar Charts Bar Charts are charts with rectangular bars, each sized proportionally to the values they are displaying. The bars can be displayed 2D bars only, also their orientation can be set to be vertical or horizontal. Additionally, it is possible to stack values on each other and scale them to 100% to create a stacked or percentual bar chart.
Continuous Line Charts Line Charts are charts on which each displayed value of a specific group is connected by a line. This line can be customized by line color, thickness, and style, also it is possible to choose the lines to be 2D or 3D lines. Optionally, the value points can be displayed as individual shapes. The lines can be stacked on top of each other and then scaled to 100% to create a stacked or percentual line chart.
Continuous Area Charts Area Charts are similar to line charts, except that the lines are used as boundaries for areas which are filled with a distinguishing color. It is possible to stack areas on top of each other and then scale them to 100% to create a stacked or percentual area chart.
XY Charts XY Charts are charts where the values are plotted onto a Cartesian coordinate system. Optionally, the values can be given a size, which causes the chart to then become a "bubble chart" with the values being "bubbles" of different sizes.
Gantt Chart A Gantt chart is a variant of a bar chart showing the progress of a project, however the axes are switched - the values are displayed horizontally whereas the groupings are displayed vertically. The start and end values of each group are always dates and are connected by bars. It is also possible to display a progress bar (from 0.0 to 1.0).
